Shirley Barton Gibson

After a life of miracles, Shirley Barton Gibson had one more amazing miracle in her life on Monday, the 9th of January 2017, when she overcame cancer to return home and ultimately to the Eternal Glory of our Heavenly Father's Kingdom.  Her life was a living miracle, from the early days as one of ten children born to Joseph and Lola Barton on the 29th of July 1948; to her marriage to her sweetheart and Eternal love, Larry Miner Gibson, for over 48 years.

The miracles continued as she had six children, who became 12 through temple marriages (Tony & Amy, Brandt & Shirley, Tiffany & Jason Nelson, Colby & Alicia, Devon & Roseann, Lance & Kimberlee).  Her legacy continued to grow with an amazing 40 grandchildren and even greater possibilities with one great granddaughter, so far.  She worked miracles through her support and love for her husband allowing him to succeed professionally and serve faithfully in various church responsibilities, including traveling to the corners of the Earth.  Throughout her life, including in these travels, she blessed and touched lives all over the world.

Everyone she met felt her love and her powerful testimony of Jesus Christ.  The Light of Christ in her eyes, her radiant smile, her soft touch, her warm embrace and her loving words, even through her pain, were a blessing for all those she interacted with, no matter how briefly.  These moments will continue to bless countless lives long after the day she left mortality.  Although she will be deeply missed in our family and here on Earth, Heaven is abundantly blessed with another queen, our Queen.  We love you Sweetheart, Sister, Mom, Aunt and Grandma.  We will join you when our time too shall come.  May God bless you and keep you until that special day.

We give special thanks to Dr Greg Bean, Dr Wallace Akerley, Terry Van Duren, and the teams at Huntsman Cancer Institute for their state-of-the-art skills, their amazing clinical experience and the unique specialty care provided in helping Shirley through this difficult journey.  We shall forever be grateful.

Her viewing will be held on Sunday, 15 January 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm and again on Monday, 16 January 2017 from 9:30-10:30am, followed by the funeral starting at 11:00am.  All held at the LDS church located at 9626 North 6800 West, Highland, UT 84003. Please share a memory below.

LaMar Anderson Sandberg

LaMar (Sandy) Anderson Sandberg, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and servant of the lord, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2017.  He was 83.  He was born November 29th, 1933 in Grantsville, Utah to Joseph Dewey Sandberg and Myrtle Irene Anderson Sandberg.  He was the youngest of three brothers and one sister all who proceeded him in death.  Dad loved life to the fullest.  He loved his family and sweet wife, Shirley, his eternal companion.  Know two people could ever be so much in love for the past 60 years.  Even during those times when his health was failing, he always put his wife’s needs first.  He would beam when she came into the room and would always say, “Can I have a kiss?”
Sandy was a kind, compassionate and a loving man.  His family loved him for his example of hard work, service and support to his family. Dad graduated from Grantsville High School and was valedictorian of his class.  He attended BYU and was an avid BYU football fan.  He worked in the airline industry and for many years as a Travel Agent.  He loved to build as a carpenter and enjoyed working in his yard.  Dad was not a man of the world but content to serve his Heavenly Father.  This brought him peace and happiness.  He would always extend his hand to those he came in contact with.  He was a man of faith and diligent in his service as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He honored his Priesthood and served on the High Counsel, Counselor in a Bishopric, High Priest Group Leader and many years in scouting.  He received the Silver Buffalo award for his dedicated service to youth.  He loved to hunt and fish with his family and gave freely of his means.  Dad served and honorable mission to Buenos Aires, Argentina.  He loved the people of that country and talked of his mission frequently.  His mission was a gift from his family who sacrificed and supported him while he served the Lord.  His greatest passion was Family History.  He spent most of his time in retirement doing Family History and served a second mission as a Family History Consultant at the Utah State Prison after he retired.  You could never get into his office without tripping over family history groups sheets, personal histories, and family trees.  He loved the work so much and loved sharing his testimony of it.  This is a man who was loved and respected as a husband, father and grandfather and by all who knew him.  Even when he required a walker to help him get around, he would always complete his home teaching every month with the help of his wife by his side.  It was not uncommon for people to approach his children and let them know how blessed they are to have Sandy as their father.
Sandy is survived by his wife Shirley Hansen Sandberg; his children:  Scott (Sherry), Brian (Rachael), Gary (Lori) and Debra Ohrn (Greg); 10 grandchildren (Josh, Brandon, Michael, Tyler, Kaylee, Baylor, Jasmine, Breann, Jace, Garrett) ; and two great grandchildren (Jadyn, Maya).
To his posterity, Dad (Grandpa) leaves his testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ, his example of love and compassion and service to others.  This is what he believed in and taught by his example. He said, “Stay close to the Lord, do what is right and life will work out for the best”.  This was his greatest gift to all of you.  What joy and happiness he must be feeling after being united, once again, with his family.  His father he has not seen in 68 years!  Sandy has been a great husband and father.  “Well done thou good and faithful servant”!
A Special thanks to the friends and staff at the Bel Aire Assisted Living Center in American Fork and A-Plus Home Care & Hospice of Utah County for their dedicated care and service during these past 9 months.  We sincerely appreciate your love and compassion.  You are the angels that walk among us!
Funeral services were held at the Anderson Mortuary on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00.  There will be a short viewing from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.  We encourage those who may have known dad to visit Anderson Mortuary online at www.andersonmortuary.com to leave a memory in the guest book.  This will be greatly appreciated by his family.  Interment in the American Fork City Cemetery.
