Mable LaBrune

Mabel (Ginger) Therese LaPointe LaBrune passed peacefully in her home on the morning of Thursday, September 8th, 2016. She leaves a legacy of love, laughter, integrity and a deep and abiding faith in the Savior. Through her example of a gospel-centered life, she taught her children and grandchildren the power of prayer, the power of faith, the power of forgiveness. She was truly good and without guile.

Born on May 27th, 1927 in Southbridge, Massachusetts, Ginger was the third child of Lionel Joseph LaPointe and Aurore Elodia (Gaumonde) LaPointe. At the tender age of seven, her mother passed away and a short time later her grandmother passed away. These early losses left a tenderness in her heart that continued throughout her life. On November 17th, 1957 she married the love of her life, Lawrence Daniel LaBrune Sr. Their civil marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple on February 14th, 1976. These two great and noble spirits created an environment filled with a love of learning, a love of the outdoors and a home where the Spirit would be welcomed. They were exemplary examples of loyalty to each other, to their family, friends and to
their faith.

Ginger’s mortal journey was filled with both joyous days and days of trial. As she passed through trials her faith never wavered. Losing her beloved husband almost seven years ago may have been her biggest test. However, even this most daunting of trials was faced with grace and patience. Her sure knowledge that she would be reunited with him and have him for the eternities strengthened her and those around her.

Ginger served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with a happy and willing heart. She accepted callings and completed her assignments with exactness. She served her fellowman because she loved them. She loved her fellowman because she first loved the Lord. She was obedient and faithful to the end and most assuredly has had the singular joy of hearing, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

Ginger is survived by her four children: Patrick (Kathryn) LaBrune, Steven LaBrune,
Lawrence (Terece) LaBrune II, Kathy (Ray) Kinghorn and her brother, Roger (Claire) LaPointe. Her posterity includes 12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary at 49 East 100 North at 11:00a.m. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 prior. Please share a memory below.

Geraldine Rose Penrod Duncan

Geraldine (Gerry) Rose Penrod Duncan passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the age of 86.  She was born in Lehi, Utah to LeGrande Wells Penrod and Daisy Powell Penrod on August 30, 1930.  She was a “blue baby” weighing under 3 pounds and was not expected to live through the night. She was put in a shoe box and placed in the oven of the old coal burning stove and lived (thanks to Aunt Ollie) to tell her story.

She was the oldest of seven children born to LeGrande and Daisy.  Her siblings are JoAnn (deceased), Carol (deceased), Joyce (Boyd) Wathen (Lehi, Utah), William (Bill) Penrod (deceased), Ilean (William) Despain (St. George, Utah), and Debbie Warnick (Lehi, Utah).  She is reunited with her parents, husband, two sisters, brother and two grandchildren (Philip and Macae) who preceded her in passing.

Gerry was raised in American Fork, Utah and attended Harrington Elementary School, American Fork Junior High School and the old American Fork High School on “the hill.”  She was an American Fork Caveman and had cherished memories of the LDS Church, the American Fork/Lehi communities and school activities she participated in (especially theatrical productions, AF marching band/orchestra).  She enjoyed her many good and true friends (and wonderful family) from the American Fork area that she considered a blessing in her life.

On April 19, 1951, she married William (Bill) Thomas Duncan (on leave from the Navy during the Korean War) in the Salt Lake Temple. To this union were added three sons, Scott Thomas (Springville), William Bradley (Loretta) (Sandy, Utah), and James Corey (Charlene) (Sandy, Utah).  She also loved and adored her eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

Bill and Gerry eventually settled in Springville, Utah.  After her three sons were in school, she went to work part-time as a clerk and accountant, then a full-time secretary to the Principal of Springville High School (just long enough to make sure her sons graduated), then she went to work as a medical secretary for Doctor Douglas Smith (a doctor of internal medicine).  Again, she had many wonderful friends and family in the Springville area.

Gerry loved the LDS Church and had a wonderful testimony.  She served as Cub Scout Den Mother, Ward and Stake Drama Director (15 years), Sunday School Teacher, Homemaking Leader, Cultural Refinement Teacher, Ward and Stake Relief Society President and worked in the LDS German Extraction Program for over 10 years.  She served as the Director of the Springville Utah Stake Family Record Extraction Program.  She also served a part-time family history mission for one year in FamilySearch and a full-time mission in Family Records Extraction Support in Salt Lake.  She extracted over 400 thousand names before her death.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:  There will be a viewing at Anderson and Sons Mortuary (49 East 100 North, American Fork, Utah) on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 6-8 pm.  Funeral services will be held the next day, Thursday, September 22, 2016 beginning at 11:00 am.  There will be a viewing the same day at the same location from 9:45 to 10:45 am.  Internment will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery following the services.

Thomas Andrew Gilles
August 25, 1964- September 17, 2016

You know the quote that says “You never know what someone is going through, so be kind”? This past year, this quote has never been truer for our family.

For the last year our wonderful husband, father, sibling, friend, and exceptionally kind and generous man, Thomas Andrew Gilles, has been struggling with bi-polar with depression and psychosis. He was in and out of the hospital several times and we have been fighting to keep him both alive and back to the person we have known and loved for years. Many of you were unaware of how difficult this time has been for us.

This week, despite heroic efforts, we lost that battle. Tom took his life on Sept 17, 2016 and we, the survivors, are devastated. Similar to tens of thousands of people each year, the real cause of death was mental illness.

There were so many things that brought joy into Tom’s life. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, his  family, music, skiing, his family hiking, bad jokes, sarcastic humor, and his family (in case we haven’t mentioned that one).

He had an infectious laugh and a generous heart. How can someone who was so loved have struggled so hard to feel this love?

Our family has been overwhelmed by the kindness, thoughtfulness, and support of family, friends, students, teachers, band members, neighbors, members of the local church, and people we barely know. To each of you, we thank you in this most difficult time.

Tom leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Alison, and their 4 children, Wyatt (19), Lucas (17), Ethan (14) and Emery (11). Their lives will be forever altered by the after effects of mental illness. His loving in-laws, Rick and Cyndie Moore, and brother-in-law Casey (Kris) Moore and their children have been a large part of his life, and they will miss him dearly.  He will also be missed by many close and dear friends, as well as the family’s two little dogs, Chewie and Rigby.

Tom was the youngest in a family of eleven and is survived by his 7 brothers and 3 sisters: Norman J. (Ann) Gilles, Alan P. (Linda) Gilles, Jack Gilles, Maureen (Paul) Robertson, Timothy Gilles, Teresa (Larry) Llewellyn, Kevin Gilles, Mary K. Gilles (Stephen R. Leone), David Gilles and Stephen (Tina) Gilles, as well as their children and grand children.  He is predeceased by his parents Norman J. and Jeannette M. Gilles.

Tom was born in Seattle, Washington and moved to Utah in the late 1980’s because he was an avid skier and was inspired by the greatest snow on earth.

A time for sharing condolences and memories will be held on Friday, Sept. 30th.

He met Lynette Bonham and they were married in 1971. She has been his loving wife of 45 years and her dedication to him has been immeasurable.

Reed was a successful business owner who taught his children the value of hard work. He was happiest in the mountains, being at his cabin, riding atv’s, and fishing with his grandkids. He enjoyed being outdoors working in the yard and in his garden. Fresh corn and that first tomato were the highlights of every summer. He coached little league baseball and football for nearly twenty years, impacting lives of hundreds of young men.

Above everything else in his life, he was an amazing father and grandfather who loved his family and always showed it with his support and encouragement. He left us too soon and the world already feels different without him. We love this incredible man more than our words can express and are beyond grateful for his love and support throughout our lives.

Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to Hospice For Utah, nurses, aides, and especially Sherry Killpack and Candice Hammer. As Reed and Lynette’s children, we are eternally grateful for our amazing mother who selflessly sacrificed everything, especially these past 5 months, to keep our dad at home where he wanted to be. We love you mom!

Reed is survived by his wife Lynette and their 3 children: Clint (Olea), Kristina (Ken) Adams, Brian (Denise) and eleven grandchildren that he loved very, very much. He is also survived by his siblings: Leon (Irma), Richard (Susan), Dale (Debra), Robbie (Nancy), sister-in-law Kay Chidester and brother-in-law Verl Matthews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Diane, LeeRay, Wesley, and Elaine.

Lizette Syomara Smith Conley (Lizzy) "Pura Vida!”

“'Pura Vida!’ It's my new life's motto and I never want to forget it. Authentic, real, peaceful.”

Lizette Smith Conley returned to her loving Father in Heaven having lived a life worthy of celebration. Liz was a force of nature, a force for good, a beloved mother and wife, and a lifetime friend. She lived her beliefs, wore her heart on her sleeve and fought hard for the things that mattered most to her: her daughters, loving relationships, healing, adventure, and social justice. Whether you knew her for 15 minutes or for 48 years you had access to her heart, her passion and her beliefs. She was a woman, who in the short time she had, mastered the art of balance and joy, even in the hardest times. “Nothing in my life matters more to me than the relationships I have with others. I am finally, at long last, living the life I always wanted. Surrounded by people I love and trust, traveling, and working on issues I am passionate about (cancer, health and wellness, and survivorship).”

Lizzy, mother of two vibrant girls, took mothering to a new level. She, like many mothers, wanted to raise healthy, happy, strong women. “I have two daughters who I love more than life itself. I (almost always) love spending time with them. Because when we do, and it's just us, we have some fascinating chats. We get to bond and get to know each other better. The trust factor increases and, generally, so does the "like" factor.” Lizzy liked her daughters as much as she loved them. She admired their spirits, their determination and their enthusiasm for life. She leaves behind a big piece of her heart and her determination in her girls. “I hate leaving my daughters, not even for a day. It is so good to be in the loving embrace of my children, who are my life. THEY are my passion.

Lizzy was so fortunate to have found the love of her life, a man who in her words, was “all in.” William (Bill) Conley was her other half. Together they were joyous. “But the great news in all of this is that I am now married and officially celebrated to a man I love and adore. We respect each other. I am so blessed and lucky.” Together, Bill and Lizzy traveled, parented, debated and enjoyed every moment they had together. He matched her intellect, he savored her adventurous spirit, and loved her completely. Lizzy is survived by a loving husband who will carry on her legacy.

Lizette Smith Conley accomplished many things in her short life. She graduated from the University of Utah, adopted two daughters, had a successful corporate career, was involved in the fight for a cure for Multiple Myeloma, was an advocate for women and girls, was a freelance writer, global explorer and more; but she will be remembered for more than her accomplishments. She will be remembered for the person she was and the values she lived by. “And each day, I swear to you, I do my best to LIVE. I treat people the best way I can. I really put myself out there to help others, even when it's not comfortable or convenient. I cut out people who are toxic. And I run towards... love, fun, peace, and meaning.

To celebrate the life of Lizette Smith Conley, is to celebrate the woman she was and try to live by her example. “Pura Vida!” Be passionate, be real, be honest and be authentic. Be part of her legacy.

Lizzy passed peacefully at Huntsman Cancer Institute at 1:00 pm on October 3, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving parents Keith and Jackie Smith, her husband William Conley, and her brothers, Jason and Ryan Smith. She is survived also by her daughters Siena and Morgan Nielsen.

There will be a gathering and viewing for Lizette Smith Conley, Monday October 10th from 6-8pm at Anderson and Son’s Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, Utah. Funeral Services will follow the next day, Tuesday October 11th, at 11am, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel, 1152 North 400 West, American Fork Utah.

Flowers may be sent to Anderson and Son's Mortuary. Cards may be sent to her home at 2979 Desert Forest Lane, Lehi, Utah 84043.
Donations to fight Myeloma may be given at myelomacrowd.org website.
Thank you all for your love and support. Lizzy was loved and admired by so many people
